I guess now you already have idea what is FTP all about. While using FTP method as a submission method for my class, below is the step by step on how to use FTP. For this tutorial, we will be using Transmit as the software.
1. First, open the Transmit software
2. You will see the basic interface of Transmit. There’ll be the left panel ( our pc ) and the right panel ( the server ). Most of the FTP server will have this kind of interface. Side by side.
3. Next, to setup a connection. Create a new connection by clicking the add / plus icon.
4. Insert the detail required. The basic thing you should know is the server address, username and password. Where to get all this things? Usually from your hosting provider. Ask them.
5. Now your shortcut to the server has been created.
6. Now to make a connection , or to start transfer file form your pc to server, click at the shortcut. You will se a list of folders and if you see this, you’re already connected to the server. Bravo!
7. Choose the location in the server where you want to transfer your file. Let say I want to create a new folder. Choose and click the public_html folder. Then make a new folder inside it by clicking at the new folder icon.
8. Type the folder name and click create.
9. Now you have created the”aklia” folder. Next is to transfer a file from your pc to the server. Go to the left panel of Transmit. Browse your desired file.
10. For example, I want to transfer the file ” happy_couple.jpg” to the server. Just drag and drop from the left panel to the right panel.
11. Click at the image below for better view.
12. Now to check whether your file is in the server or not, simply type back the url in the browser such as Safari.
13. Usually in our production server, we have created the upload or download folder which widely used for file transfer between the client. We don’t practice on sending files through email esp. when the files are too big. Here are the procedure that Secretlab.Media been using since the first day.
a. Simply zip the required files,
b. Then upload to server via ftp
c. Copy the URL of the file
d. Test the url whether the zip files is there or not
e. Send the URL to client to download via email / sms
f. Client smile, you smile, I also smile
The end
