Part 1 : REVAMP, UPDATE and MORPHING

The trend of updating website depends on the author or the designer itself. Some might rejuvenate the whole look and feel by changing the whole concept of the web including changing the main structure. Such a drastic revamp like a new born reincarnation process where’s the only things remain is the original soul. For instance, a metaphoric event on this can be considered a changing of a bungalow to a condominium or even to a caravan!

As for me, it has been 2 years since the first appearance of my website to the virtual space (http://www.khairulazizi.com), has given me the idea of interface morphing where the structure is just the same, but with different decoration and visual as the skin is kept changing. I call this web morphing. It’s like from a bungalow change into a bigger bungalow or with additional gardens or rooms and etc.

Well this depends on the point of having update or the need of revamp because I see no point changing the whole structure of the web except the content itself. Again, its depend on the nature of the web itself. Do we need to update it frequent? What do we gain from the frequent activities?

As I see my personal web only as my manual of life which is the place or museum for my artworks, so the needs of revamp is minor.

The challenge for me is to keep it maintain as it first appearance as the signature of my design or the signature of the web itself. The brand. We need to remember, no changing on visual appearance at all also will loosen the interest of the audience. We need to move forward in content but not major in appearance.

It’s not easy to upgrade a museum physically when you have a lot of collection inside. The space or the composition, the placement of the links and so on. For example, the total artworks listed currently is nearly 200 and to redesign all of it again to match the new structure of the web is insane.

Thus – the first time doing the website is the most importance things to consider as its like the first time doing the house. Are we building a bungalow and need to change it to a condo or just to fabricate it with our progressive appearance?

It’s not easy but yet it’s easy to be left out.
