Hello Nvu (1)

I went for a building web site (basic) slot as an assist to the speaker, Ahmad Azwan. It was the second workshop of pendapatantambahan.com, (additional-income) where the first one held a few month ago where I was there as a participant.

Anyway, I’m not going to talk about the the content. What I wanted to share here is the software used to build the basic e-commerce website. It’s called Nvu. It was used in the workshop as the tool to create basic e-commerce website for a beginner or shall I call the online business owner.

For me using Nvu ( new view ) is probably a short-cut and ample enough for end user to understand the concept of building website. Back in the 1998, where I first met Netscape Composer, I remember that it’s so hard for us to understand the concept with a limited resources. It was about trial and error. I wonder if there was Nvu earlier, I might be not using Dreamweaver at all! Netscape Composer had me turn to Dreamweaver 2.0 that time.

Nvu is like a complete solution to beginner. It has all what you need. The menu is direct to the point, as if like working with Word. Nvu has the basic capability of Dreamweaver. It has file management window, which the most important element of building website. WYSIWYG feature with 4 view panel like normal, source code, tag and preview. Adding and deleting table has an unique way but it’s no big deal for a basic website.

The only confusing part is the form element. The elements is listed in text, not as an icon like Dreamweaver. It’s a challenge for a beginner to master this since some of them didn’t even know what is text field.

On top of all, the most important things why we choose Nvu as the solution is because of the reliability. You can download it anywhere and it’s free, open source. As a business start-up owner, money really counts. Beside having a webdesigner to design your online e-commerce website that has only a few introduction products, I really recommend Nvu. Stay tune and I’ll show you how to build a basic website with Nvu later.
